Application Process for International Students

Required Documents for First-Year and Transfer Students

International students applying for first-year or transfer admission must submit the following documents:

1. Completed Application with Essay

Choose either the University of Dayton Application or the Common Application. Remember, there is no application fee, making it accessible for International students.

2. Official Secondary School Transcripts

Submit transcripts from all previously attended secondary schools, including:

  • Dates of attendance

  • All subjects studied

  • Grades earned

  • Marks achieved on examinations

For International students, transcripts not issued in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Proof of completion (graduation date, diploma, or certificate) must also be provided. If you're still in school, submit these documents as soon as you complete your studies.

Transcripts from schools outside the United States must be uploaded through the checklist feature in your admission portal.

3. Post-Secondary Transcript Evaluation (Transfer Students Only)

If you've taken undergraduate courses at institutions outside the United States, you must submit an official evaluation of your college transcripts. The evaluation must be a divisional course analysis completed by SpanTran.

Visit the University of Dayton SpanTran application for a discounted evaluation. Once your evaluation is completed, SpanTran will send an official copy directly to the University of Dayton at no extra charge.

4. Proof of English Proficiency

International students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English proficiency. All English test scores should be sent directly from the testing center using code 1834 (or code 3342 for ACT).

The university also offers conditional admission for students who want to attend the Intensive English Program at UD before starting their undergraduate studies.

5. Financial Documentation

F-1 and J-1 students must provide financial documentation showing sufficient funds to cover the first year of study. Acceptable forms of documentation can be found in the Affidavit of Financial Support in your admission portal.

Important notes for International students:

  • Financial documents must be less than six months old

  • If sponsored by an individual (like a parent), submit an official bank statement and letter of financial support with matching names

  • Financial documents can be submitted in your home currency but must equal the necessary amount in USD

  • Government-sponsored students must submit the official financial guarantee letter

Application Deadlines for International Students

The University of Dayton's academic year is divided into three terms with the following application deadlines for international students:

  • Fall term (August through December): May 1

  • Spring term (January through April): November 1

If you cannot attend a specific term, you can return to your admission portal to submit a new application for a future term.

Application Review Process

Once your application is complete, the evaluation and review process takes approximately 4 weeks (some programs may take longer). Official decision letters, immigration documents, and enrollment instructions will be sent via email to the address used on your admission application.
