The University of Adelaide is offering an exciting PhD research scholarship opportunity funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC). This scholarship supports a full-time PhD student to conduct cutting-edge research in biochemistry, molecular biology, and plant science, focusing specifically on tackling herbicide resistance by learning lessons from drug resistance mechanisms.
Scholarship Overview
The scholarship provides financial support of $35,300 per annum (2025 rate, indexed annually) for up to 3.5 years. This stipend is likely to be tax-exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Tatiana Soares da Costa, an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and Head of the Herbicide and Antimicrobial Innovation Laboratory at the University of Adelaide.
Research Focus
This innovative project will draw parallels with drug resistance to investigate new molecular mechanisms of herbicide resistance transfer in weeds. The research has significant potential to revolutionize strategies for preserving and restoring the efficacy of current and future herbicides. The long-term benefits include improved crop yields that safeguard food security, with positive social, economic, and environmental impacts.
As part of this scholarship, you will:
Work in a vibrant, multi-disciplinary team environment
Develop advanced skills in biochemistry, molecular biology, and plant science
Contribute to groundbreaking research addressing global agricultural challenges
