AINSE Postgraduate Research Award (PGRA) 2025

The Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) is offering the Postgraduate Research Award (PGRA) for PhD students enrolled at AINSE member universities. This prestigious award provides substantial financial support and research opportunities for postgraduate researchers.

Award Benefits

The PGRA provides:

  • A stipend of A$9,000 per annum (increased as of July 2023)

  • Additional funding to support travel and accommodation to ANSTO facilities for research purposes

  • Duration of up to 3 years

Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship is available to:

  • Australian Citizens

  • Australian Permanent Residents

  • New Zealand Citizens

  • Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holders

  • International Students

Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD program at one of the AINSE member universities (listed below). The award supports various types of candidates including those with academic merit, financial need, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and students with disabilities.

  • Applications Open: February 1, 2026

  • Applications Close: April 8, 2026 (Internal deadline)

Application Process

All PGRA applications must be submitted via the AINSE Portal. Applicants are required to include a letter confirming their current scholarship details with their application. For University of Adelaide students, this can be requested from the Adelaide Graduate Research School.

Once submitted, applicants should send a complete copy of their application and confirmation of submission to their university's Graduate Research School.
