Okayama University will award Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships to top students admitted to its English-taught Discovery Program for October 2027, with applicants from African and ASEAN countries in mind.
The scholarship funds the whole four-year Bachelor's degree. There is no separate form: recipients are chosen from the best performers in the normal admission process.

A living allowance of ¥117,000 a month
Airfare to Japan at the start and home at the end of the degree (not for applicants already living in Japan)
Who can be considered
In principle the scholarship is for students from ASEAN and African countries, and the university says several applicants will be selected. It applies only to the October 2027 intake, for which Japanese is not required.
Applicants need 12 years of schooling or an accepted equivalent. English test scores are needed only if fewer than five years of their secondary education were in English.

How to apply
Apply to the Discovery Program for the October 2027 intake in either round: October 5 to 15, 2026, or December 21, 2026 to January 8, 2027. Documents must arrive by 17:00 Japan time on the last day.
You will need transcripts, a reference, three personal statements and the ¥17,000 application fee, and shortlisted applicants are interviewed online. Our guide to the Discovery Program 2027 covers every document and date.
If you are not selected
All international students in the program still pay reduced tuition of ¥642,960 a year instead of ¥1,339,500, and students admitted from abroad receive ¥48,000 a month from JASSO for their first six months.
