The Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environments and Mineral Exploration (CRC LEME) is offering a Supplementary Research Scholarship in Regolith Science at the University of Adelaide. This prestigious scholarship aims to encourage further research into regolith science, building upon the foundation established by CRC LEME.
Scholarship Overview
The scholarship provides a stipend of up to $18,000 per annum (tax-free) for eligible candidates. The duration of support extends to 2 years for Masters by Research students and up to 3.5 years for PhD candidates. The scholarship period will commence from July 1, 2025, with no extensions permitted beyond the maximum duration.
What is Regolith Science?
Regolith refers to the layer of loose, unconsolidated sediment that covers solid bedrock on Earth and other planetary bodies. This includes transported materials like dust and alluvium, as well as in-situ weathered rock. Regolith science encompasses research into:
Erosion, transport, and transformation of minerals on planetary surfaces
Interactions between minerals, their chemical constituents, water, and living organisms
Earth's critical zone processes that sustain life
Processes affecting the formation and discovery of Earth resources
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must:
Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, permanent humanitarian visa holder, or international student
Be undertaking research specifically in the area of regolith science
Be enrolled full-time in a postgraduate research program (PhD or Masters by Research)
Already be in receipt of a major scholarship
Selection Process
The scholarship will be awarded through a competitive process managed by the Adelaide Graduate School. Selection criteria include:
Academic merit
Research potential
Relevance of academic research to regolith science
Outcomes of the selection process are expected to be announced by the end of August 2025.
